The Ghana Co-operative Marketing Association Limited (GCMA) was put together as the first indigenous farmer-based organization in the then Gold Coast in 1944, registered No. 255. After the overthrow of the first President of the Republic of Ghana, the activities of the Association were suspended. The Association lost a number of properties to Cocoa industry players. The activities of the company were de-frozen finally by His Excellency President J. A. Kufuour in 2009 and signed Deed of transfer to return the properties of the company. The company has embarked on managerial and operational reforms to structure the ground activities and bring confidence to the farmers and the staff and to assure Ghana Cocoa Board of the operational competence of the new management of GCMA. The new management team has so far exhibited competence in connecting with various farmer groups who are now selling their cocoa beans through the GCMA.
